Golden Bachelor
“The Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner and his spouse, Theresa Nist, made public their decision to part ways, revealing their intention to end their marital union, a mere three months following their highly-publicized wedding event.
In a statement on “Good Morning America,” Turner, aged 72, expressed, “Theresa and I engaged in numerous candid discussions, thoroughly assessing our circumstances, our abode, among other factors, and we have collectively arrived at the realization that it may be appropriate for us to terminate our matrimony.”
The duo exchanged vows in a televised ceremony in January subsequent to their introduction last autumn on the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor,” a derivative of the enduring ABC dating reality series “The Bachelor.”
Nist, aged 70, extended her gratitude to supporters, articulating, “We are unable to quantify the multitude of individuals who conveyed to us the sense of optimism it instilled in them. We are resolute in maintaining that sentiment for all.”
Although Turner and Nist refrained from disclosing the catalyst for their separation, they hinted at facing challenges in determining their place of residence. Nist, hailing from New Jersey and working in the financial services sector, contrasted with Turner, a retired restaurateur from Indiana.
The couple previously informed ABC News’ Juju Chang in November of their intentions to settle in South Carolina.
ABC launched the American dating reality series The Golden Bachelor on September 28, 2023.[1] It’s a spin-off of The Bachelor where the single man and participants are older adults.
The 72-year-old Hudson, Indiana, widower and retired restaurateur Gerry Turner starred in the series.[2] After it ended on November 30, 2023, Turner decided to pop the question to Theresa Nist, who is 70 years old. On January 4, 2024, ABC broadcast the wedding as a live special titled The Golden Wedding.[3] ABC revealed in February 2024 that The Golden Bachelorette, a spin-off of The Bachelorette, had been scheduled for the network’s fall 2024 schedule.[4]
A casting call was released in January 2020 for a senior citizen-focused season of The Bachelor, targeting men and women 65 years of age and above.[5] The show was originally scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2020 as part of the 2020–21 TV schedule, but the COVID-19 epidemic caused delays, causing the series to be postponed until 2023. The sixteenth season of The Bachelorette took its place, also experiencing a delay.[6][7]
ABC formally ordered the first season of The Golden Bachelor on May 16, 2023.[8] Turner was revealed as the first lead of the series on July 17, 2023.[2]
The show airs on Thursday nights in lieu of the ninth season of the Writers Guild of America due to the 2023 strike.

The pair, who married in a televised ceremony earlier this year after falling in love on the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor” last year, made the announcement exclusively on “Good Morning America” on Friday.
In an interview for “Good Morning America,” Turner said to Juju Chang, “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, and so forth and — and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to — dissolve our marriage.”
“Divorce?” Chang elaborated. Turner said, “Yes.”
“We have been showered with love and support.”
